I don’t know if you have paid attention to it. Sometimes you will see some vehicles with special body covers on the road. These vehicles are almost all from European brands and are expensive models. Some of them are luxury sedans and some luxury SUVs. On these models with body covers, we can more or less see a brand called Mansory.

Speaking of the Mansory brand, we are not too unfamiliar with it. Some friends who often visit auto shows held in various parts of China are even quite familiar with the brand, because the brand basically participates in major auto shows held in China. So what is the origin of this brand that specializes in luxury car modification? Today, I will introduce it to you.

Mansory was founded by its founder Kourosh Mansory in Munich, Germany in 1989. The reason why he founded such a brand is closely related to Kourosh Mansory’s childhood experience. Kourosh Mansory was born into an Iranian business family. Because his family was quite wealthy, Kourosh Mansory was exposed to many classic car models since he was a child. This experience made him have a strong interest in cars. In the 1970s, he was sent to a boarding school in the UK by his family. As for whether this school is Coventry University, one of the oldest automotive engineering universities in the UK, and whether he studied automotive engineering, there is no detailed information in the existing information.

After completing his studies, he moved to Germany for a while and studied German at the Goethe Institute in Munich. He also worked as a waiter in a cafe. After completing his studies in Germany, he returned to the UK again and saw British luxury cars such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Aston-Martin, etc., and was poisoned again… It is said that Kourosh Mansory originally wanted him to run a high-end hotel because of his business family, but after he returned to Germany, one of the European automotive powers, he saw the car modification industry that was beginning to rise at that time, and he completely changed his mind and started to engage in the car modification business. Kourosh Mansory’s first work was based on the W123 model produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1976 to 1986. According to the information, Kourosh Mansory believed that this type of luxury car deserved a more luxurious interior, so he began to customize wooden steering wheels, newly designed leather seats, modified wheels and other accessories for the W123. Under his operation, this modified W123 was indeed sold at a higher price. This also made Kourosh Mansory decide to fully devote itself to the car modification and upgrading industry. After all, who wouldn’t like a career that they love and can make money from?

At first, the car modification business was basically completed by Kourosh Mansory himself, so the production capacity was not only small, but also relatively slow. It was not until 1989 that he finally decided to officially open Mansory Design & Holdings GmbH. He began to make accessories called “MANSORY”, and soon these handmade and unique parts made the Mansory brand famous in Germany. The reason why Mansory stood out in the German car modification industry at that time was largely because his modification direction was different from those classic German car modification companies that focused on performance upgrades. Mansory, which focused on luxury and appearance, quickly gained customers who had these requirements for their cars.

In November 2008, Mansory acquired the tuning business unit of the Swiss company Rinspeed AG and subsequently established MANSORY Switzerland AG, which expanded its product range to include accessories for Porsche models. Since then, modified accessories for brands such as Range-Rover and BMW have also been sold under the MANSORY Switzerland brand.

Later in 2012, Mansory also signed a cooperation agreement with British Lotus. This cooperation relationship was facilitated by the then CEO of British Lotus, Dany Bahar. However, the CEO of Lotus was not honest and was eventually fired for some financial reasons. In the end, this cooperation relationship did not last long. The story of Dany Bahar is quite interesting. We will talk about it briefly later.

Today, in 2023, Mansory customizes many brands, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Aston-Martin, Audi, etc. The business scope has also expanded from the initial appearance and interior upgrades to a small performance modification business. However, as a brand that customizes high-end luxury cars, the services and vehicle surrounds it offers are not cheap. Let’s take a look at the new works recently launched by Mansory.
